7/10 A step up from “Star Trek Into Darkness”, but not quite as good as the 2009 reboot. The trailers had me worried but this is actually a solid Star Trek film that if you’re a fan of the series, you will enjoy. A little over the top and not the most memorable space set movie, but the action was well done, it had solid performances (except for Karl Urban who starts very shaky and slowly improves) and a decent villain, which is hard to come by these days. It probably won’t be the film that pulls in new fans but if you like Star Trek or science fiction in general, this is a good movie that deserved to do better at the box office.
